The evolution of digital photography is one of the major breakthroughs in the digital technology in the 21st century. Photography has played a very significant part of the human generation over many decades. The sentimental value it carries along have also become a work of art as it continuously to evolve through the years with newer equipment and more advanced features. Photos are lifelong mementos of precious moments and memories captured on camera, and as people continue to embrace the art and significance behind it, photography will continue to evolve for the years to come.
What is digital photography?
It simply means capturing images using digital technology. In the past, we used photographic film. But over the years, the development of digital photography has paved the way to more convenient methods of capturing images. With digital photography, you don't have to buy film anymore. Now you can capture images over and over again without wasting a negative. You can edit and store images in your computer and print them however you like. You don't have to go to the dark room to develop your photos anymore. Everything has practically been made easier with the evolution of digital photography.
The history of digital photography
It is interesting to note that Albert Einstein must have triggered the emergence of digital photography when he won the 1921 Nobel Prize in physics for his work on the photoelectric effect. The second instrumental factor to the birth of digital photography took place in 1972 when Steven Sasson of Kodak was asked to build a camera using solid-state image sensors which uses photosensitive diodes to record light. Steven Sasson successfully created the first digital picture in December 1975. However, the company did not release any consumer camera at that time. In 1986, Kodak finally came up with the world's first megapixel sensor that is capable of recording 1.4 million pixels and produces a quality digital photo print of 5x7 inch. In the early 1980's, Sony corporation also released the first prototype digital camera known as the MAVICA (Magnetic Video Camera). Mavica was an electronic video camera that created still images that were stored in two-inch floppy disks. It was only in 1994 that Apple finally released the first digital camera for consumers, which has marked the milestone in the evolution of digital photography and opened the doors for several other companies to offer their own products
Fast forward to the present day, we are now enjoying the various options for digital technology. With a wide array of features and designs, almost everyone can now get their own digital camera according to their style and requirements. From sizes, colors, designs, number of megapixels and a lot more, you can choose which one is the most suitable for you. From regular to professional photo shooting, you can get the specifications you need in varying price ranges according to brand and model. With the evolution of digital photography, capturing images and memories that will last a lifetime has become easier and more fun!
