Screen Gems Pictures released a new horror/thriller film "The Roommate" into theaters earlier this month. I checked it out,and believed it was quite great. I truly liked Gossip Girls star Leighton Meester's job as the psycho girl. The film features: Leighton Meester, Minka Kelly, Cam Gigandet, Aly Michalka, Danneel Harris, Frances Fisher, and Billy Zane.
The film centered around characters Rebecca (Meester) and Sara Matthews (Kelly) . Sara is a typical gal college student who looks to be having a wonderful time at college. Then one day,she gets a totally new roommate named Rebecca who seems to be very friendly to start with. Well,at least to Sara, anyways.
All the others that Sara introduces Rebecca to,gets an evil stare,or a slightly uninterested vibe because it's about Sara, and only Sara with regards to Rebecca, and nobody better do anything to make Sara upset or else Rebecca will certainly get on their case in an exceedingly worrisome way.
There wasn't much murdering in the film, but the next best thing happened. Rebecca starts out threatening one of Sara's friends after she feels she's an unsatisfactory influence. The altercation finishes with Rebecca yanking the woman's belly-button ring out. Ouch! Then she gets one of Sara's college professors fired when Sara reveals to her he made a pass at her. That one wasn't so bad.
However, things do really go a little overboard when she decides to stab Sara's past boyfriend to death with a box cutter, claiming, Sara doesn't love him anymore. It all goes on without Sara knowing. Sara doesn't get truly suspicious until she gets tipped off that Rebecca is on prescription medication for Schizophrenia. Sara made an effort be understanding of Rebecca's weird ways until she learns about the schizo stuff. After that, she gets freaked. The very last straw comes when Rebecca gets the very same tattoo as Sara.
This causes Sara to immediately move out of the dorm, leaving Rebecca all by herself to become even crazier, which led to the major, thrilling conclusion that involved Rebecca,a kidnapping,Sara, some of Sara's friends, and a gun shootout. It was seriously intense and entertaining.
While it had a pretty predictable finish,I didn't enjoy it any less. It was a superb film for me. It never had any flat moments, and presented a lot of "edge of your seat" scenes. I certainly liked Leighton Meester's performance. She's been in a whole lot of flicks here lately. It also presented some cameo appearances from Vampire Diaries stars Nina Dobrev and Katerina Graham. I gave it a solid B grade.
