The strapless gown trend in bridal gowns is still going strong. With all of those strapless gowns in the bridal salons, there is a good chance that you yourself may find yourself wearing one down the aisle. Not every strapless gown is the right choice for every woman, however. This is how to pick the perfect strapless wedding gown especially for you.

The first thing to consider is the style of your wedding. Having a black tie event, and planning to wear a dazzling tiara with a full suite of crystal bridal jewelry? Then you will want your strapless gown to be opulent and dramatic. Fabrics with a sheen, such as silk satin, are ideal for a formal wedding, as are special details such as cathedral length trains and beadwork. If your wedding is to be less formal, there are plenty of strapless gowns that will still be great – simply opt for a slimmer silhouette and a matte fabric like chiffon.

Your figure plays a major part in picking the perfect gown. Every bride with every shape can wear strapless, as long as it is the right cut and properly fitted. Big bust? No problem. Small bust? Again, not a problem. Just be sure that you select a gown which is made to order so that it can be customized to fit your proportions.

Brides with fuller busts look wonderful in strapless gowns which have a slight upward curve across the neckline. This will provide ample coverage and ensure that you look appropriately demure on your wedding day. If you order a designer gown, you will be able to customize the gown to fit your bust measurement or cup size, which is very important. With an off the rack gown, you would have to order it to fit your largest measurement, meaning that it would likely be huge in the waist and hips. The right pattern change, however, means that you can order the gown in the correct size with a larger bust measurement. The additional fee for the pattern change will be a bargain compared to the task of completely remaking a wedding gown that is too large in the waist and hips.

If you are a small busted bride, opt for a strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline which will add the illusion of curves to the bodice. You will also find that strapless gowns with ruffles or ruching along the neckline will be very enhancing. Brides who do not require a supportive bustier under their gowns can opt for empire waist strapless gowns (a style which generally does not work for bustier brides because the boning of their undergarments will show through). Be sure that the seamstress pinches in the top of the bodice as closely to your chest as possible so that when you raise your arms, you cannot slip out of the top of your bridal gown.

Brides with petite or long torsos can also find strapless gowns that suit them beautifully. Most designers will allow a wedding gown to be ordered with either a shortened or lengthened torso measurement to ensure a great fit. Tall brides may also wish to have the necklines on their strapless gowns raised by an inch or two to ensure that all the important parts are covered. Then all that is left is to put on your veil and crystal bridal jewelry, and you will be ready to go get married.
