Don t you just envy those women who have radiant complexions?
Great skin that is clear. Free of blemishes. Radiant skin that practically glows with health.
The secret here, is health.
A healthy diet and lifestyle is what you need to get your skin glowing from within.
Tip #1 Drink Water
Your body is made up of 70 water. Your skin needs water to stay hydrated. Water is required to keep your skin soft and supple. Drink at least 10 glasses of water each day to moisturize your skin from within.
Tip #2 Eat Your Veggies.
Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. These are filled with vitamins, water, minerals and fiber. Fruits and vegetables that are strongly colored are particularly rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants protect your skin from damage by the free radicals it encounters everyday. Free radicals are produced naturally during each cell s living processes. You would also encounter free radicals through the environment. Pollution and UV rays and cigarette smoke are just some of the other ways you are exposed to free radicals.
These free radicals are unstable molecules which steal electrons from other molecules, making them unstable, setting up a chain reaction. These free radicals even damage the cells DNA, which affects the new cells that are produced to replace the old ones. Basically, free radicals speed up the detioriation we usually associate with aging.
Antioxidants neutralize these free radicals, stopping their nonsense once and for all.
So eating more fruits and veggies lead to a healthier body and healthier skin, not just for the nutrients they contain, but for the protective effect of the antioxidants too.
Tip #3 Get Enough Sleep Every Night
How much sleep is enough? Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night. You know the axiom: Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man (or woman) healthy, happy and wise.
Notice how fresh your skin looks after you ve had a great night s sleep?
Conversely, notice how haggard you look when you are sleep deprived?
Why is that so?
It is when you sleep that your body repairs itself. When you sleep, your body produces more new cells to replace the old ones twice as quickly as when you are awake.
The mesh of collagen and elastin fibers form the skin s underlying structure hold the skin up. When this mesh deteriorates, skin slackens and wrinkles form. Collagen and elastin are produced by the skin cells in the dermis. So insufficient sleep ages your skin in the long run.
Tip #4 Exercise
Notice that rosy glow you get after a run, or a great work out?
Blood and oxygen flow to your skin is increased when you exercise, nourishing your skin. Your skin is flushed when you exercise and the rosy glow lingers after that.
For a double treat, take a brisk walk or run outdoors to get the benefit of fresh air as well.
When you exercise, you sweat. Toxins leave your body through sweat as well so you get a great detox session.
Exercise helps you relieve stress. Stress wreaks havoc on the skin as it constricts blood flow to the skin and makes skin dull and lifeless. Prolonged stress releases cortisol which lowers your immunity, making you more susceptible to irritants. Just the destressing effect of exercise alone is very beneficial to your skin s health.
With exercise, you detox and destress your way to better skin.
Tip #5 Exfoliate
Get rid of the dull, flaky skin cells by exfoliating your skin regular. Use a facial scrub once a week for dry skin or normal skin, and twice a week for oily skin. By removing the dead skin cells, you reveal the younger cells beneath.
Tip #6 Remove Makeup
Never go to bed while you are still wearing makeup. Remove every last trace of makeup before you hit the sack.
Use a makeup remover, cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin no matter how tired you are. Otherwise the makeup would clog your pores. You d also want to get rid of makeup so that your skin can breathe easily while you sleep.
Tip #7 Moisturize
Your skin needs to stay hydrated in order to stay soft and supple.
