Beer barns are drive through beer stores where beer lovers can drive in and order whatever beer they are looking for. A beer barn is a concept born from McDonald s idea that people can drive through the place and get a beer without getting out of their car. Beer barns are usually enclosed spaces that you drive through in your car, picking up a beer as you go.
There are now a good number of classic barn style buildings across the United States with drive lanes cut out of them. In some cases you just drive up to the counter and order your beer, while in others you wait in your car and a barn girl will come and take your order and then deliver your beer.
One of the reasons that some barns now have motor lanes cut out of them is because of the traffic backups that occurred while people were sitting in their cars to get their beer. Other beer barn owners have followed Disney s pattern and given the drivers something to watch, such as a LCD television, or some sort of show, while they were waiting to get their beer.
Disney demonstrated that if you give people something to be amused by, they are less likely to complain about the waiting time, or worse still, go elsewhere.
You might expect that most beer barns would be located in somewhere like Texas, but in fact the oldest is actually in Michigan. You also may think that beer barns are an entirely new concept but that one in Michigan has been in existence since 1941, almost 70 years!
The barn in Anne Arbor, Michigan, as ceased to be a drive through beer barn and has now become a walk in beer store. The first liquor barn in the Texas area has been around since 2003 and is still an active drive through liquor store.
You can get other forms of alcohol besides beer in a drive through barn, but there are strict rules as to what they can sell. Some alcohol requires it to be sold in a liquor store, rather than a drive through. In Dallas, there are two barns opposite each other, one a strictly beer barn, and the other a liquor barn. So if you want some hard liquor then it s no use going to the beer barn.
If you re in a hurry to get back home then this is an ideal place to pick up a six pack and some smokes without ever leaving your car. A drive through is just what it says it is, if you have one near you then it s worth checking out, whether they stock your favorite beer or not. Some also sell kegs too.
One particular drive through in Montana has its own whiskey shed and wine store, beside the actual barn itself. They can definitely be a lot of fun, and some barn owners will put on all kinds of entertainment to encourage drivers to stay a while and buy some more beer. While you can remain sitting in your car drinking your beer, most barn owners will also have a sign up, reminding you to not Drink and Drive.
