We ve all been invited to one; a Something or other Party. If you go you ll feel obligated to buy the Something or other. Growing up I can remember my mom cursing under her breath about yet another Tupperware Party. Come to think of it, mom did have a lot of Tupperware. The first time I was asked to a Something or other Party I felt so grown up, so of course I went and I bought a few things. I mean to not buy anything would be rude the hostess had drinks and food for everyone, she even made cocktail wienies! It was a fun night and I went home with my receipt and a slight giddiness at the anticipation of getting the items that I had bought.

Well that was my first Something or other Party. Flash forward a few years and I now curse under my breath anytime I get an Evite for one. At least I did until I went to a Something or other Party that was completely different than any other. A friend invited me to a Gold Party. At first I thought, “Yeah, like I have piles of unwanted gold lying around.” But you know what? I did have some things; a necklace given to me by an ex, a scarf pin given to me by an aunt who was obviously did not to know that no one wears scarf pins anymore, and a couple gold rings that I never wear anymore.

So I showed up at the home of the hostess with ziploc bag of my loot not quite knowing what to expect although I was hoping for some cocktail wienies. There was a good size crowd, about 11 of us. We sipped wine and nibbled on cheese; we chatted with each other mostly about the gold jewelry that we were hoping to get some cash for and the stories that were attached to the items. When it was my turn I went into the dining room to meet with the buyer. I sheepishly handed him my ziploc bag, wishing I had put it in something a little nicer. He didn t seem to even notice the bag but smiled and made small talk as he began testing the pieces for karat weight.

Everything I had tested to be 14 kt gold so he weighed it together on a scale right in front of me, did some quick calculations and offered me $576.00! It was way more than I had expected to get. So with a big smile on my face I took the offer and went back to the party to share the great news. So without a doubt this was the best, my most favorite party I m even planning on hosting one myself! So to all my friends out there, do not curse under your breath when you get the Evite, just gather up the gold jewelry that s broken or unwanted, bring it to my Gold Party and leave with lots of cash! And yes, I ll be serving cocktail wienies!
