Wouldn’t it be nice if you could have fresh young skin throughout your life? Take a few minutes to think about the older people that you know. You will, no doubt, notice that some of them look younger than their peers. You might wonder what their secrets are. Well, I can tell you what they might be.
They may have learned that the sun causes photo aging. That’s what scientists call it. The whole molecular process that occurs is rather complicated.
What you really need to know is that UV rays from the sun trigger the production of molecules that damage cells and elastic fibers. With continued exposure, you will see fine lines, wrinkles and sagging. In other words, you’ll look older.
Think about people that work on a boat or spend their lives outdoors. If they aren’t careful to use a broad spectrum sun block on a regular basis, the fresh young skin that they started out with becomes rough and wrinkled.
So, people that look younger might have learned to either stay out of the sun or use an effective sun block. The most effective is zinc oxide.
The importance of moisturizing is another thing that they might know about. Regular cleansing is a part of nearly everyone’s skincare routine, assuming that they have access to soap and water.
While good hygiene is of obvious importance, most people tend to overdo it, showering at least once and sometimes twice a day. If you need to shower that often, you need to moisturize, afterwards.
Cleansers and hot water strip the skin’s natural oils. Wash them away to often, without replenishing them and you’ll start to have problems. Itching and excessive dryness are the most common problems. But, eventually, you’ll begin to lose that fresh young skin that you enjoy.
When you shop for moisturizers, you need to be something of a detective. At the very least, you need to carefully read the label of ingredients. Most of the so called moisturizers on the market do not really replenish the skin’s moisture content. The common ingredients to avoid include petrolatum, liquid paraffin and mineral oil.
Inexpensive body lotions are primarily composed of mineral oil. On the front of the bottle you will see things like “now with aloe” or something similar, but on the back of the bottle, you will see that aloe is far down on the list of ingredients. They only have to include a tiny drop to be able to use the label.
If you want fresh young skin for a long time, look for body lotions that contain olive, jojoba, grape seed and other natural plant oils. Look for daily facial creams that contain antioxidants, because they counter the molecules that cause sun damage.
Use a nighttime cream that supports the skin’s natural rejuvenation processes, with nourishing ingredients like avocado oil and Shea butter. If you take those suggestions to hear, you can have fresh young skin on your face and body for the rest of your life. After all, your body grows some new skin, every day.
