Are you looking into purchasing fencing for your yard, pool or for your horses? Maybe you are interested in a pergola, trellis or an arbor. Whichever your fencing needs, vinyl fencing would be the way to go if you are looking for a material that will look beautiful and last a lifetime with little to no maintenance. Here are a few points about vinyl fencing you should consider:
* Vinyl fencing lasts longer than wood fencing, as it is stronger and more durable than wood. It can withstand extreme cold, heat and wind. That means no warping, splitting etc. to repair.
* The durability of vinyl fencing makes it cost effective compared to wood fencing. Vinyl fencing has very little maintenance, if any, to keep it beautiful for a lifetime whereas with wood fencing you have yearly maintenance for chipped, broken pickets, wood rotting, painting and cleaning.
* Vinyl fencing is also green! They are non-toxic and one of the most energy efficient materials used for fencing needs. Not to mention, recyclable.
As we know, vinyl fencing is just about as maintenance free as you are going to get, especially compared to wood fencing. With a few cleaning techniques, you can continue to enjoy your beautiful, clean vinyl fencing for a lifetime!
Dirt from the weather, scuff marks from mowers, and rust and/or hard water stains tend to be the most common problems with vinyl fencing. In most cases, using a soft brush and garden hose will suffice for cleaning needs. When your cleaning issue is a little more stubborn, such as mold or mildew, using a little of the cleaning product Simple Green (found at most grocery/hardware stores) diluted into the water can aid in the removal. We have also found for rust and hard water stains that a little CLR (found at most grocery/hardware stores) or simply using vinegar can help remove these stains.
Also, take note that if you are having a problem with hard water stains and rust, you also need to know what the culprit is causing it on your vinyl fencing. If these stains are appearing due to the lawn sprinklers, the minerals and such in the water, you will want to adjust the spray or figure a way to remove the source from hitting your vinyl fencing or that particular issue will reappear time and time again.
The vinyl used in vinyl fencing contains titanium dioxide from DuPont (tiPURE) which means it does NOT yellow or fade over time. It remains its true coloring from the day it is installed. The vinyl is also a non-porous material; therefore, paint does not adhere to it well. One more precaution I'd like to note is that the posts for vinyl fencing can be damaged by weed-whackers and other tools of that nature. By simply spending a little more time weeding around the posts, you can prevent any damage.
Looking at the big picture of vinyl fencing versus wood, vinyl fencing far exceeds in lifespan, maintenance and overall durability for your fencing needs.
