Goodyear Tyres has recently launched its follow-up to the popular Eagle F1 Asymmetric tyre with a new UHP tyre which, according to this leading manufacturer, was actually three years in the making. The new Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 UHP tyre was developed in response to specific requirements set by Goodyear Tyres to reflect the company's safety-conscious branding. Of particular importance in this respect, Goodyear Tyres was keen to introduce a new UHP tyre that would offer significantly improved braking for high performance cars in both dry and wet conditions.

Goodyear Tyres has introduced its latest "Active Braking Technology" in this tyre; a new concept that features a tapered edge tread block which is said to develop more surface area under braking load. At the same time, Goodyear Tyres has utilised a high surface silica tread compound that works over a larger contact area (around 30 per cent more than previously) to bring vehicles to a standstill in less time. Moreover, Goodyear Tyres has actually substantiated these claims by having the tyres independently tested against three leading and very well-respected competitors.

These recent tests were carried out for Goodyear Tyres by TUV-SUD Automotive in Germany. An Audi A7 was chosen as the test vehicle because it was felt to be representative of the kind of vehicle that typically uses UHP tyres. In these tests, the new Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 active braking tyres from Goodyear Tyres slowed the vehicle from 80 to 20 km/h in between 2.0m and 3.4m less distance than the average of tyres from its three leading competitors. At the same time, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 from Goodyear Tyres was also quicker to brake in both low and high friction wet braking than the best of its rivals.

These are excellent results for Goodyear Tyres who were also pleased to note that in the dry braking test, which measured how great a distance is used getting from 100kmh to 0kmh, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 from Goodyear Tyres also delivered outstanding results. In fact, the tyre achieved this in 1.5 metres less than its nearest competitor. The UHP tyres sector is an extremely demanding arena and Goodyear Tyres is to be congratulated on achieving these excellent results which will enhance both performance and safety for all road users as well as the sportingly-inclined motorist.
