Google's Panda update is still continuing to make big news all around the internet. Many websites - big and small - saw a steep decline in their rankings and traffic due to this update. This update really has web owners and SEO consultants quivering in their shoes. But all is not lost for sites which were affected by this algorithm change. These sites were merely downgraded due to a host of reasons and not banned. So they have all the chance to recover the ground lost during this upheaval. Few tips on how to make your site look good in Google's eyes have been revealed by Google's Matt Cutts and Amit Singhal.

1) Is your website trustworthy? Apparently, this is one of the big factors now. A website needs to be trustable according to Google. For this Google asked several human testers to rate sites according to trustworthiness. Singhal disclosed that they asked these human raters, "Would you be comfortable giving this site your credit card? Would you be comfortable giving medicine prescribed by this site to your kids?"

Questions like this have helped Google to evaluate which websites are truly authoritative and not just content scrapers and aggregators.

2) Ads overload? Another important factor is to verify if your site has excessive ads or if the content is generated only keeping ads in mind. If this the case then removing some of the ads and ads above the fold and replacing it with original or value added content may help you.

Ads are main source of revenue for many sites but remember that your site should not be primarily aimed at ads but for users looking for some information or services or wanting to buy products.

3) Is your site authoritative? Faced with the criticism that low quality content farms are trumping authoritative sites, Google made changes to their algorithm to judge to separate wheat from chaff.

If your site scrapes content from pother websites then be prepared to face action anytime soon.

If you aggregate content from various sources then it will be a good move to start adding some value to your content.

4) Do you provide quality content? One of the questions posed to human raters was, "Would it be okay if this was in a magazine?"

This indicates that Google is now looking for indicators to judge good content. Sites with poor level of content can be penalized in a big way.

5) Check out suite101: Cutt's said, "Oh, yes. Suite 101, I've known about it for years. I feel pretty confident about the algorithm on Suite 101." He even went further and stated, "Look at Suite 101. Go there, look around, figure out what they're doing, and make sure you're doing the opposite."

With this proclamation, Google has warned as well as advised webmasters to concentrate on serving good content and making their sites a lot better then perhaps it is right now.

Google is getting serious in its battle to weed out spam from its search results. Perhaps, it is a way to make big sites even more subservient to Google. Who knows!
