History:It may be argued but the first recorded use of scarves dates back to ancient Rome where pieces of cloth were used as handkerchiefs. Eventually, Romans saw the practicality of bringing these around so they began to tie it to their waists or around their necks. Later on, around the 17th century, scarves were worn by Croatian mercenaries to distinguish the officers from the soldiers. The former would wear scarves of silk while the latter of simple cloth.
By the 19th century, in Europe, scarves suddenly became a fashion accessory that appealed to both men and women. One reason that it became such an appealing accessory was because of the warmth it provided. Often during that time, scarves were made of wool and seemed like a very practical addition to anyone s wardrobe
Rise to fame:Over recent decades, the scarves have seen another boost in popularity among fashion circles. This sudden rise in attention may be attributed to several different factors. One reason is through the media which portrayed the use of scarves as the trendy and cool thing to wear. More specifically square scarves which were became the staple of the stereotypical cowboy or bandit as portrayed by the media. The masses caught on and found it appealing as they imitated what they saw in the media. It all started with scarves being worn around the neck and soon after evolved in such a way that different methods of tying a scarf also popped up. Later on, it found itself on the higher end of the fashion accessory popularity spectrum.
In so many different ways, square scarves were being used and modeled in a myriad of fashion circles. It was used around the neck, tied to a belt, or wrapped around the arm. There were so many other and creative uses to this accessory that it would be pointless to name all of them. The fact of the matter was that it had become a staple fashion accessory as it stamped itself as not merely a trend, but an accessory that would be here to stay.
Trivia:Today, square scarves can be found in almost any clothing or department store. It comes in an array of different designs as mentioned and usually does not carry a very heavy price tag. Since the internet boom years ago, these fashion accessories can also be found online. There are even online shopping sites that are dedicated solely to the selling of all kinds of scarves. In effect, it has become a very cheap alternative to spice up one s look without have to shell out a lot of cash. This, in a way, has also added to its popularity because of its accessibility even to the less fortunate people.
On interesting note that can be pointed out today is the rise of young designers taking initiative and manufacturing their own line of scarves. With manufacturing technology very much available to the youth it has become easy for them to infuse their creative juices into something that can actually be created and produced. Since the fashion accessories are very simple, it allows them an outlet to unleash their creative potential. So, not only have square scarves become a staple in today s fashion but it also seems to have social implications that benefit the youth.
