Right about now you should be asking yourself: hangers? What could a person possible write about hangers? This is a very valid question, and at first glance it wouldn't seem like there would be all that much to go on. They have a hook on top, they are usually vaguely angular, and they hold things off the ground. What more is there to know?
As it turns out, there are, in fact, a lot of different hangers available to the Average Joe. Sure, it could be said that hangers are no more than devices to keep articles of clothing from resting on the ground (and this would be true). But not all hangers are created equal.
The intention here is not to encourage a strange obsession over the style of hangers that you use to be stylish, but it is a simple attempt to show that there are more options available than the standard dollar-store cheapies. Many of them are actually still very comparable in price.
For example, if you are tired of the same old thing, some nice wooden hangers can add a touch of elegance to your closet. And that's just the first decision you have to make. What kind of wood do you want? Cedar? Walnut? Maybe you want something a little more environmental, in which case bamboo hangers are the way to go.
If you prefer some nice shiny chrome in your closet, however, you can look into the metal hangers. These come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, and some of them even have some surprisingly artistic designs. These metal hangers can be pretty thin, though, so you should be aware of this and avoid hanging anything too heavy on them. Stick to wood for the big stuff.
And don't forget all the specialized hangers. Sure, you say, any old hanger can hold up one pair of slacks, but were you aware of the specialty hangers that can hold three or four pairs in a nice, space saving order? They're easier to get than you might think.
There is still the option for plastic hangers. You don't have to go for the old, cheap things. There are a wide range of plastic hanger styles, and you can get them in bulk if you have special needs, such as purchasing for a clothing store. You can get them in many shapes and sizes, from children's hangers to special shaper hangers.
This dissertation on the nature of modern hangers is, understandably, not going to convince you that there's anything new about hangers. They still hold your clothes off the floor. But perhaps you will consider adding a little character to your closet, and that would be enough.
