Anastasia State Park is situated in St. Augustine Beach, Florida and offers one of the best quality camping destinations in Florida. Owned and operated by the Florida State Parks system, the park attracts multitudes of folks every year looking for the perfect camping vacation. Actually, camping at Anastasia State Park is so popular that the campsites are usually reserved months earlier. There are around 140 campsites and reservations can be made close to a year in advance. The sites provide both water and electricity hook ups and can accommodate both tents and RV's as much as forty feet in length. Each campsite also provides a picnic table, a fire ring and a ground grill. There also is a centralized trash compacter to keep the critters away.
Camping at Anastasia State Park is alluring to people for a variety of factors. The camping spots are located amidst a thick stand of hardwoods and palms that offer plenty of shade and ample privacy from neighboring campers. Furthermore, the campground is divided into a number of loops and every loop features its own sizeable bathhouse that is only a minute or two walking distance from each campsite. The bathhouses are up kept well and each one features a minimum of three or four showers in each one of the women's and men's bathhouse. As a local who provides camped there a couple of dozen times, despite the large sum of campers, I will tell you that I've not usually had to wait in line to grab a shower. If so, it has only been a couple of minutes.
In additional to the stress-free, tree-filled atmosphere the camping area delivers, perhaps more inviting are the beautiful St. Augustine beaches that are merely a quick walk or bike ride down the road. It is only a 5-10 minute walk or bike ride, but if you are taking plenty of beach supplies, then I highly suggest you just drive there. It's literally merely a 1 minute drive from the campground and there is a large parking lot right at the beach. The beaches of Anastasia are known for their gorgeous sand dunes and sea oats and there is an outstanding boardwalk out to the beach that provides some of the best landscapes in the whole park. Sunbathing, swimming, surfing, kayaking and volleyball are a few of the most well liked beach activities and beach equipment rentals are available at the Salt Run Outpost, next to the parking area, or at the Surf Station Surf Shop that is located just out in front of the park entrance.
And finally, as a Florida native and one who frequents the park, please let me feature up a few tips. If you're planning your camping excursion for the summer time, make sure you bring a good amount of sunscreen, water, insect repellant and a fan for your camping space. If your adventure is going to be while in the cooler months, then please be aware that it may get quite cold because of the proximity to the beach.
