Acne is one of the hardest things to deal with. In this article I will attempt to explain what the top three causes of acne are and why its not so easy to deal with the problem by simply “washing more”.
Acne is a condition which could have a dramatic effect on your life. The breakouts, the irritation and itching, and sometimes the pain are very hard on your daily life. We have all been there usually during our adolescent years but some of us into adulthood. One way you can fight acne is by knowing what causes acne in the first place; so what is the culprit behind your bad skin nightmares? The truth is acne is caused by several factors, some of which you can control and some of which you cant but the three main ones are listed here. Again, understand that acne is caused by more than just these three factors, only your personal doctor, or a dermatologist can tell you for sure what is the main factors to your acne condition.
1) Proliferation of Bacteria
The third main cause of acne is the proliferation of a certain bacterium called Propionibacteria acnes. While this bacterium is found on most healthy skin the problem begin when the bacteria start to grow at an accelerated rate and get out of control. Then the bacteria care trapped within a pore clogged by dead skin cells and oil they begin to thrive. As they digest the oil in the pore they create a byproduct, which irritates the lining of the pore. The redness and swelling are due to this irritation and the pus inside the pimple is simply the fatty acid waste that was created by the bacteria eating the oil.
2) Overactive Sebaceous Glands
natural oils in your skin are created by Sebaceous glands, which are located all over you inside your pores. This oil, called Sebum, is one of the things which helps to make skin soft and elastic. When your body produces too much of this oil however the pore can become clogged and create a blockage in the follicle. According to recent research the oil is also different in its makeup for those who suffer from acne, containing higher levels of wax esters and lower levels of free fatty acids than normal. This composition creates a very favorable environment for acne causing bacteria to thrive.
3) Abnormal Shedding of Skin Cells
The outer layer of your skin is continually shedding dead skins cells and replacing them with new ones. This is a normal function of the skin and usually it goes along unnoticed. But in acne prone skin the process is in overdrive. Way to many cells are produced and therefore its difficult for the body to get rid of the dead cells efficiently. This along with a genetic condition which causes the body to shed cells quicker than normal can cause the cells to get clogged up inside pores and create a blockage.
Its important to remember that these factors have nothing to do with your hygiene or lack of proper skin care. They are all normal function of the skin just gone a little awry. Nor matter what someone tells you washing with a certain kind of soap or not eating a certain type of food will not have any effect of these causes. Those are just wives tales, told by those who do not know any better than what they have always been told themselves. However now you know better and you have the knowledge needed to take charge of your acne condition effectively. Good luck!
