If your bathroom vanity is worn out or outdated, replacing it would be a quick and dramatic way to clean up a bathroom. You need a step-by-step approach and a little planning if you want this alteration to be completed in a day. Deciding which vanity to buy may be your biggest challenge.

Here are the steps you'll need to follow for installing your new bathroom vanity. You need to shut off the water and disconnect the supply and if there's water dripping from the supply and p-trap (white curved pipe in the center) then use a bucket to catch the water.

Loosen the caulk between the bathroom vanity and the wall with an utility knife. To remove all the caulk, you may have to go all the way down to the floor on the sides. The countertop should be carefully removed to avoid damaging the wall and you may need help for this if the countertop is large.

The screws attaching the bathroom vanity to the wall should be loosened as well. Use a cordless screwdriver to make this an easier step. Be careful not to strip the screws when you remove them. Remove the old vanity then. Locate the wall studs and make marks for new screw holes. Higher than the top of the new vanity should be the marks for the studs.

It's essential for the bathroom vanity to be flushed against the wall. A carpenter's level and shims should be used for this step. Once the vanity is positioned, attach it to the wall with 2-1/2" wallboard screws.

Before attaching the new bathroom vanity top, the new faucet should first be installed. In the long run, the job would go faster and the number of times you have to get under the sink would be lessened. The bathroom vanity top can be secured to the base by using tub-and-tile caulk.

Reconnect the plumbing this is also a good opportunity to replace the p-trap. To make the connection tighter and easier, use Teflon tape. Around the countertop edges, carefully apply a thin line of caulk. The caulk will be visible so be careful because tidiness counts.
