Amorphous, flexible solar panels are my favorite new technology. Amorphous means "shapeless" which means that the solar panels can be shaped and fitted to meet any predetermined need. The innovations coming out with this technology are amazing. People in third world countries are using flexible solar panels, combined with led lights to bring lighting to places which have no electricity. That's an amazing innovation. They're very simple to build and charitable organizations are teaching the local people groups how to build them and giving them the equipment needed.
For uses closer to home, solar panels are expected to drop in cost by 50% within the next year. That's amazing! Not only is the technology getting better and more efficient everyday, but the cost is being driven down by a huge demand and by government backing. There are rebates out there for many states in the way of solar power, and government research is bringing solar advancements into fruition. This means that exciting new technologies are going to continue to reach the markets every year that are going to keep getting cheaper and cheaper.
Amorphous, flexible solar panels are really great simply because they have a much broader scope of application that the old fashioned silicon panes, which are still seen on the roofs of many neighborhood homes. The main factor is the fact that they're both light and portable, and can be made to fit just about any shape. Add to the that fact that the cost of solar technology is expected to drop by 50% within the next year and you've got a formula for lots of clean energy.
Not only is the cost of solar an exciting thing in the development of America, I'm also excited by the potential of new green collar jobs which will be created by this kind of technological advancement. Green collar jobs are one of the brand new booming industries, things like solar and wind installation, and green consulting for large energy using industrial plants. With the cost of solar to be cut in half, and with the exciting new advances in amorphous, flexible solar panels, the demand for this technology is obviously going to explode. When this happens, there's going to be an increase in the demand for green collar jobs, which I'm hoping are going to help lead the way in the restoration of the American economy. Wind and solar power are both fields that US manufacturers are researching in hopes to produce in large quantities. My big hope is that America will capitalize on this opportunity and create lots of manufacturing plants for this excellent new technology. Once this happens, we'd be able to use in-house manufacturing to arrive at a greener nation, while at the same time stimulating the economy and jobs.
Energy is big business, and America is one of the big leaders in energy consumption. Switching over to solar energy would require a huge amount of manufacturing and money. Traditionally, that's been the one downfall of solar. The cost. This country just spent A TRILLION DOLLARS in bailouts. Imagine if that money was spent developing solar manufacturing plants instead. We could get the corner on an exciting new market that's due to go global. Solar is the way of the future.
