If you are visiting the Tampa Bay area in the winter then you are in for a huge treat. Many times people from the northern states like to visit Florida in the winter time in order to get away from all of the cold weather. If you are used to 30 and 20 degree temperatures then stepping off of the airplane or out of the car and feeling the warm 70 degree weather on your skin will put a smile on your face.

Although the Tampa Bay area has advantages of visiting during each season, visiting during the winter time is one of the best times to visit. During this time the weather is perfect with an average temperature of 70 degrees and almost no rain at all. I would caution you however to check the weather just before you leave because there are times during the winter when cold fronts arrive and the weather can be quite brisk for a few days usually no longer than a week. But since this could be your entire vacation you want to make sure that you are dressed appropriately while you are visiting. Be sure to bring a sweater or a jacket if you did not check the weather so that you will not be too chilly when enjoying the outside.

Many of the festivals in the Tampa area take place during the winter time when the temperatures are mild and the humidity is not high. During the winter there is the Florida State Fair, the Strawberry Festival and the Gasparilla Pirate Fest. These occur in the months of January, February, and March. Another advantage of having these festivals during the winter is that they have a less likely chance of being rained out. So if you are in town during one of these festivals then take advantage of it.

In the winter time the water temperatures are usually too cold for people to swim. At the beaches during this time you will not find many people in the water. The ones that do choose to partake in the chilly temperatures are usually some of our Canadian neighbors to the north or people from really cold parts of the world. Even though you may not want to swim during this time you can still visit the beaches and take in a beautiful sunset or a dining cruise.

The winter is also a great time to take in some of the beautiful parks in the area. You can visit Lettuce Lake Park, Al Lopez Park, or Hillsborough state park.

You may also want to take a walk on Bayshore Boulevard or on the Tampa Riverwalk. Visiting Busch Gardens or the Lowry Park Zoo are also great options for visiting the Tampa Bay area in the Winter time. You definitely want to take advantage of everything that is outdoors during this beautiful time of year.

The winter time is an excellent time to plan a trip to the Tampa Bay area. With the 70 degree temperatures, low humidity, and low chances of rain you will definitely be happy you came. So get your bags packed, tickets bought, and trip planned to enjoy yourself during this wonderful time of year. and don't forget your jacket and check the weather before you come.
