The television viewing population seems to go gaga over the newest fad television broadcast networks offer - reality shows. These shows have undoubtedly captured the hearts of people who have found comfort and escape in the adventure, travel, comedy or drama they have in them. However, there are more than what meets the eye.
Some of the many aspects of reality shows are kept from you. But when you read on this article, those aspects will be handed on you in a silver platter.
- Every scene shown on television has long been mapped out. The producers and the broadcast network designed and built the show themselves, so it's logical that they have always known how the show will turn out. It goes without saying that in one way or another, the participants in the reality show have been manipulated.
- Conflicts are what make the viewers always crave for, so that's what they are given of. How the participants irk and piss each other are the guilty pleasures of the reality show viewing population. Imagine putting ten people together who always get along? Yes, you can very well say that the show will get boring.
- The people in the reality show are not called 'contestants' for nothing. Usually, the editors and producers turn them into a one-dimensional character, the way producers want the public to see them. They have minimal or no control at all over it as they have agreed on this set up before the show even started at the first place.
- Although reality shows come in all shapes and sizes and takes form in different formats, what can be considered as the best is the kind of reality show that showcases real talent. These talent-based reality shows surpasses travel, adventure, comedy and drama. Here, participants are judged according to what they have got to show the talent.
- People who don't know about the ins and outs of the industry are usually easily deceived. The viewers can be gullible and will start to believe the staged scenes shown in reality shows. The producers of the reality show have to stage such amazing scenes to maintain the viewership and keep the ratings high.
- Big story lines often come from tiny anecdote. The sensationalized trending topic people talk about has its roots from just a minor thing. But media always has its ways to blow up something so small to get the attention, and ratings too.
- Never try to find love within the premises of a reality show. Look for adventure, check. Look for travel opportunities, check. Look for comedy and drama all together. But never ever look for love, the kind that you would envision ending happily with matrimony. When you are a participant who is linked to some other participant, keep in mind that there is a slim chance that what you have on camera can continue even after the contest, or if it is even real in the first place.
Reality shows may seem real, but no. Not really.
