In the eyes of the producers, it is amazing how this show genre has managed to garner a massive following. It astounds them as the relatively low budget reality shows ironically bring in a net profit surpassing that of drama, sitcoms and other show genres which require a high budgeted production.

To start off, reality shows portray how things really unfold in real life. Viewers Are Challenged For Solutions
Reality shows allow viewers to feel as if they are also an integral part of the show. Because the adventure in reality shows usually involve solving puzzles and looking for solutions to ordeals, it also stimulates the audience to think and figure out ways to come up with the solutions. To say the least, reality shows have a way to sharpen the minds of the audience.
Viewers Feel Important
Reality shows make people feel that what they have to say is important. Even if there is a panel of judges, the viewers are given the power to vote who they want to stay in the competition and in some cases, who they want to leave it. Being in the show gives the contestant an instant ticket to fame and makes the audience to believe that they too, can have their own moment in the limelight. It makes their hope alive that they can also be popular, even if it's just that so-called "fifteen minutes of fame".
Now, it has become understandable why reality shows become a phenomena everyone loves.
