Portrait painters are challenged to please the beholder and they are also challenged to fix on a canvas, even with the tiniest of brush strokes, a typical posture and other details that capture the subject and brings it to life. As her clients say, a female portraitist is well capable of bringing her subjects to life. This is even if his portfolio consists of faces which are not human ones but sensitive, moody, aristocratic, happy, relaxed, and alert.

Normally, what she specializes in is painting portraits of dogs, horses, and cats but what she would like to try is painting other kinds of animals. She is someone who lives in the Maplewood section of the borough and in her home she has a studio where she works in. Art and animals are her two passions and so it was five years ago when she thought about combining them.

She used to paint only the animals' heads but now she paints them in their entirety and her newest project is of a horse running across a field. And although the typical portrait is of a single animal, she also has done two or more, and finds that these make interesting compositions. When her clients tell others of how she painted their pets they now become her new clients asking her to paint more than one of their pets.

Commissioning a portrait for each of her three wolfhounds was a woman. In this case, each on is as different as people. When she goes to dog and horse shows, she takes her portfolio, camera, and business cards. What is necessary in animal portraiture is the knowledgeable use of a camera for you do not have a model that is willing to hold still and pose for you. What she does is shoot one or two rolls of film for each subject and then paints using these pictures. She also believes it is very important to spend time with the animal, handling it if possible, both to see the true color of its coat and to perceive its character.

The relationship that exists between the animal and its owner is also something she needs to see. What she tries to capture as closely as possible is her view and their view of the same animal. The expression in the eyes is a key feature that conveys the personality of the animal in a portrait and the conformation of the animal also must be portrayed accurately.

For show animals especially, conformation is an important thing. Apart from knowing a lot of animals you also need some familiarity when it comes to the correct conformation. From something like animal portraiture, the rewards are great. So pleased was he at the unveiling that he could not stop chuckling and shaking his head.

Many people commission portraits of their own beloved pets and many others order them as gifts for other animal lovers. When the animal has died, experts have mentioned how the owners hold on to the portraits as special keepsake. She was able to paint a portrait of a deceased pet in the past as photographs alone can be used by artists in creating these portraits if the pictures are good enough.

Oils, pencil, and pastels are what she uses when she works. A project at a time is what she focuses on when she works. It is not advisable that an artist works under pressure and so she avoids providing time frames. She limits the portraits she does to one or two a month. As she finishes a painting she takes a break for she knows how it is exhausting for a painter to paint an even if she tries to paint everyday she still gives herself a break on the weekends.
