The first step to effective networking to help your business grow is the business card. You're your cards are printed and ready to be handed out, the next thing you need to do is get them to the hands of target customers who are likely to buy your products or services.

As the most important component of your business' visual identity, it's the first thing people see on your first contact. So you need to ensure that your cards are designed effectively and appealingly. Here are tips to help you maximize the use of your business cards so you can get the greatest value from them.

- Don't leave your home or office without your cards. What's the purpose of your cards? To be given to your target market to encourage them to patronize your products or services. So, your cards won't be any good if they will simply sit on your desk. Keep in mind that your cards are created to move with you, so be sure to keep some in your wallet and pocket, briefcase, card, and in your desk. Be sure to check your pocket or wallet every morning before you need and restock if you are running low. You never know when you will a potential customer, so you need to be ready all the time.

- Get a good card holder. A business card holder will do more than keep your cards neat and in pristine condition. It will also help you convey a professional image. Just imagine talking to a prospective customer and whipping out your stylish leather or metal card holder. It will surely grab the attention of your prospect and give them the impression that you are serious with your business. If you are receiving a card from another person, it is also good if you keep it in a stylish holder. This will tell the other person that you value their card. A stylish card holder for your desk is also important so your cards are neatly displayed in your office.

- Send then through mail. When sending a letter, bills payment or any type of correspondence, don't forget to enclose your card. You never know, your card can get into the hands of someone who is looking for your product or service. Keep in mind though that when sending a personal letter, don't include your card. This is considered inappropriate and tacky, so just leave your card out of personal correspondence.

- Give them out to anyone you meet. It is best to ask for people's contact information before handing out your card. Consider taking time to read and comment on the cards you receive. This will encourage them to ask for your contact details as well. You can also write notes in the business card templates, but if you think this is inappropriate consider writing your note after you conclude your conversation.

Keep in mind that your cards are only as good as the manner you use them, so be sure to use them every chance you get. Your target customers are out there simply waiting for you to contact them. If you don't reach out to them, they are likely to ignore you. Keep a good supply of your card on hand at all times, and you are likely to get your cards into the hands of people who want them and will probably buy your products or avail of your services.
