Gift giving always has some risks involved. You will want time to pass before asking if they liked the gift or not. Having the president of the US himself as the receiver can be tougher. The Mount Airy resident, bringing her gift with her, had to sign a visitor's log in Room 45 at the Old Washington DC> A guard took delivery on the bag which contained a portrait of the President's horse, Little Man.
Coming from Old National Pike where she lives with her family, this artist is best known for her animal portraits. After taking art courses in high school and animal portrait lessons, she turned her love of animals and a knack for portraiture into a business. The fact that she is every enthusiastic with that she does, she was able to make her business do really well.
With a picture in hand and her pastels she then starts to create her masterpieces. Her horse portraits are copies of show photos sometimes. She says she falls in love with all the animals, having done horses, cats, dogs, a goat, parakeets and guinea pigs so far. Given that she has worked with fur animals for some time she now wants to widen her experience and work with fishes and turtles with oil paints. Being a veteran in the industry she has the ability to enhance the features of the animal making it more pleasing to the eye.
Asking the president's wife for pictures which can be her basis for painting little man, she says she wanted to do this for some time now. The Special Assistant to the President and Director of Correspondence sent a reply after six weeks and the pictures of the president and the horse. It was hard for her to work with the pictures that were sent to her. In doing her work it was ordinarily part that she conducted visits with the pet and the owner so that she could look at color and other things that a photo might not have gotten.
As the project was going on though she heard the Little Man had passed away. She thinks that the portrait will now mean more to the president. Dividing the portrait into four she continued her work. Firstly, she did a pastel drawing which was her basis for the different dark, medium and light shadow tones. Adding the color was next and in order to blend it in well, she needed to use her fingertips.
Next was the addition of the bland color and for Little Man's portrait it was light blue. It is important to always make the portrait look real. The artist exhausted a lot of time making that the details were accurate and that the portrait looked real.
The portrait she did of Little Man was not exhausting at all. Loving horses herself, she use to have about four but now only keeps one in Poolesville. The family menagerie includes a cat, a dog and a goat. According to her she is very proud that she was able to make the president a portrait of his horse.
