Art and music is hard to separate for this artist. He grew up in a household were singing and painting was prevalent. When he went to school he learned that some kids did not appreciate music and drawing as much as others did. Letting go of his artistic talent so he could concentrate on music during his teen years is what he did and now this is what he does for a living. When he was younger he would play with bands and earn some money.

Music had been his life for over 30 years. It was only 12 years pass that he thought about art again. But he did, and he hasn't stopped. Now he is both a musician and an artist just like when he was a child. Only now, his subjects are a bit more in depth.

He enlisted the help of his friend, who was also a musician and a painter, for some oil painting lessons. Trying to learn the realistic style his mentor helped him a lot. The results of the lessons was that he was able to make a painting that was chosen as a promotional print the year it was painted, and a portrait of a long haired, white cat.

What you show people is the result of your work. Essentially what he looks for in a certain scene is the emotional impact of it. He makes sure that the image of a person he is painting is flattering. He knows that the key to flattery is to get the lighting right.

Your images will become more three dimensional if you are able to capture the right lighting and shadow depth. Despite using watercolor, some people still perceive it to be oil. He likes the convenience, and watercolor is a little less technical.

He even painted a mural for a couple who live in the Clover Hill section of Frederick which is one of the greater paintings he made. He was able to paint a whole of which was of colonial Williamsburg. With their love for the early American village they wanted to have one big mural of it in their house. About 10 feet wide by 4 feet tall is the measurement of the mural which is of a fictional street.

Having added some wagons and people dressed in colonial garb and hollyhocks it mural seemed more real now. In order to finish the project he had to log about six to 12 hours a day four days a week. There would be three days that he devotes to his music. Both physically and mentally you are drained when you paint he shares. Being focused is very important here.
