It truly is simple to find yourself checking email throughout the day, but most find that the right time management strategies for checking email on a schedule means you may focus on work and avoid wasting time checking a potentially empty email box. The best times to check the email are right before lunch and right before the end of the day. This allows you to check your own mail before taking breaks and will enable you to respond to mail and walk away from the computer to refresh and jump back in to work more quickly as soon as you return.

Once you have established a schedule you can inform your own customers, clients and coworkers about your new time management strategy by making an auto responder. An email auto responder that notifies your own readers of your schedule means that they will learn to accept that you only read and respond to emails at specific times each day. You'll find that they begin reducing the number of emails they send and consolidate them to ensure a response to all of their questions and comments at once. They'll also rush to email you before the final scheduled email check of the day. This reduces the number of emails you receive in the evenings after your work day has ended.

If you are using a smart telephone you may turn off notifications that may tempt you to check your own email when you hear emails hit the inbox. You can also disable email during the evenings and weekends so you may rest and refresh.

While you may find that it is really hard to break the email habit at first, you will notice that you become more organized with the time throughout the entire day if you could focus without the temptation of checking email. Do not let one or two slip-ups get your new time management strategy off track. If you find you start checking email outside of your own schedule, have a moment to determine what you may do get back on your own schedule. You may well need to totally log out of emails or end the mail system during your down time to avoid temptation.
