The Angry Young Man of Indian bollywood, entered the Indian politics during the year 1984. He used to be a close friend of the late Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. He contested in the Lok Sabha elections form his native Allahabad. Fortunately he won the elections but didn’t prove himself as good politician and his term of office seemed to be short term. And his entry in politics did effect his actual career. Thereby declaring that he never understood politics and would never return to the field. Quotes by the Big B I m not into politics at all of any kind. There s absolutely no question of my going into politics. I ve repeatedly said I don t understand politics, nor do I have any wish to get into it in any capacity.
Jaya Bachan
Jaya Bachchan seems to have a good understanding in politics. The Bachchans became active in politics notably with the Samajwadi Party and has been a Member of Parliament representing the Rajya Sabha. Though the Election Commission, during the period of APJ Abdul Kalam presented a report requesting the disqualification of Jaya Bachanchan from Rajya Sabha for holding a post of profit. However, the recommendations made by the commission were not immediately known. What Jaya Bachanchan has to say, “I will never quit politics”. Seems she knows all the political tricks.
Sanjay Dutt
The macho man of Indian cinema who always carries controversies with him and has also tested the air of prison. This year the Samajwadi Party had selected him to contest for the Lok Sabha elections. The party had great hope regarding Sanjay Dutt that would he come up with a majority because of his popularity as Munnabhai, a character played the him who helped the needy with a perfect attitude. Though he intended to take part in this the election the EC had put him to wait because of the case in the court. But if he dint have this background we could see another actor turned politician. Well talking about his film the comedy thriller All the Best met the tragedy, means it flopped. And yet Blue provides a ray of hope.
Jayaprada
Jayaprada the successful actress from Kollywood (South Indian film Industry), stood in the election of Lok Sabha from Rampur for Samajwadi Party in the year 2002. She won that election. But later we didn’t hear much about her political career or the changes she made in the society with her political affluence. May be, she was just a face to the public where as decision making was done by the party itself, after she won the election. Well what does that mean, she turned out to be a puppet?
Smriti Irani
Smriti Irani has also tried her luck in politics. She shook hands with the BJP and stood for the elections and she did won the election. She had huge women fans and to her expectations her fans did their job. But after becoming a leader we didn’t much to hear about her or her activities in the field.
Govinda
Govinda the ‘Virar boy’ had won the elections but turned out to be a bad politician. Not only in politics now a day’s it’s getting difficult for him to get a leading role. Turning to politics has cost him a lot.Talking about actors turned politician i should have given Tamil Nadu the upmost propority. But, doesn’t matter. Coming to TN actors turning to politics or becoming politicians is not a a new thing in TN. Its more like a tradition. This becomes clear from the fact that the first non Congress Chief Minister of the state and founder of DMK, Dr. C.N. Annadurai, used to write film scripts prior to his entry into politics. The tradition that started way back in 1960s has continued and is being nourished till date. Besides Annadurai, co founder Karunanidhi also used to write cine scripts. M.G. Ramachandran, who founded AIADMK in 1972, was also a very popular actor in Kollywood. He won his way to the Chief Minister post very easily. And the first woman to become the CM of Tamilnadu, Janaki Ramachandran (M.G..R.’s wife) was also a Tamil actress. The AIADMK chief and present Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa also had an extremely successful career as an actress prior to her entry into politics.
These are only a small list . There is lot more going on in the live world of Bollywood.
