It’s not hard to find a natural skin care company or, should I say, it’s not hard to find companies that claim to use only naturally occurring ingredients. There are even some companies that claim to use only organic botanical or plant extracts. It’s just hard to trust these companies.
Once you read a few labels, if you have a basic understanding of petrochemicals, you begin to see that what it says on the front of the bottle is no indication of what is included inside of it or what will be listed on the back. This is especially true in the US.
US manufacturers have the FDA under their thumb, so to speak. While the Administration has tried to have advertising claims and terms such as “organic”, “natural”, “hypoallergenic” and “doctor tested” regulated and legally defined, the courts always rule in favor of the cosmetic companies.
The courts still believe that chemicals applied directly to the skin are not hazardous, because they do not penetrate. Anyone that has ever used a trans dermal medication knows that chemicals do, in fact, penetrate, and enter the bloodstream.
That’s one reason that so many of us are looking for a natural skin care company. We are trying to go back to the basics taught by traditional healers. One of the tenets of traditional healing throughout the world is that one should not put anything on the outside of their bodies that they could not eat. That’s good advice to say the least.
Because, so many of us are interested in their products, companies are trying to get our business. Many of them are good honest companies. But, there are just as many bad ones.
In recent news, five products were evaluated by the state of California. Each one came from a manufacturer that claimed to be a natural skin care company. The labeling indicating that the ingredients were organic. But, when the products were evaluated by independent laboratories, they were found to contain cancer causing Dioxane.
According to the suit filed by the State of California, each product was to be removed from the market, labeled to reflect that the product contained a carcinogen or reformulated to remove the contaminant. You won’t find Dioxane listed on a label. It forms when the petrochemical ethylene dioxide is used during the manufacturing process, typically to reduce the harshness of other ingredients.
A natural skin care company can start out with mild ingredients. They can purchase the raw ingredients from trusted farmers or wholesalers. They can have them tested for impurities. They can further test each batch to be sure that their customers are not being exposed to hazardous chemicals. The sad thing is this. Most companies don’t go to any of those efforts.
There are naturally occurring compounds that moisturizer, reduce inflammation, heal wounds and delay the aging process. The best advice is to choose a natural skin care company that does the research and has the desire to provide the safest and most effective anti aging ingredients. Why settle for anything less?
