Almost all of us have learnt French, Spanish or any other foreign language in our primary or secondary education. But, if you check whether these students can really speak the language, then you will find that most of them can’t. Most of these students visit that country where the language is spoken and unfortunately, they face the harsh reality of not being able to communicate in that language on a day to day basis, even after having studied it extensively. It actually takes more effort and doing some more things than only cramping up the textbook if you really want to speak the language fluently. Below given are some effective tips that explain you how to become fluent in a foreign language:

1. First of all, try being in touch with a group of people who are well versed with the language and can speak it without hassles. For example, if you are studying Spanish, then just attend one of the masses of the Spanish service. You could also join a salsa class where they know a little English also. Being a volunteer at a refugee camp is one of the best ways to learn a foreign language. There are bright chances that you will meet people of your community who could speak that foreign language that you are willing to learn. Along with improving the language, this will also help in the overall development of your personality.

2. One of the ways to become fluent in a foreign language is to try going on a vacation to the country where that language is the primary language and at the same time, trying to avoid places where people can speak English for the very reason that you can learn the language when you are forced to converse in it. This implies that there are high chances your Spanish does not improve up to a great extent if you visit Cancun in Mexico as people there know English. Imagine if people of that country cannot speak English, then it will take just one wrong order in the menu to make you remember that phrase forever!

3. Try listening to music in the language that you want to learn. Music makes it simpler to learn the language as most of the words of the song are repeated and generally are spoken in the song at a slow rhythm giving you time to understand and learn them, which is not the case when the language is actually spoken. You can search for these songs on the Internet and you may also sing along with the tune. If possible, try getting a friend who has learnt the language and can help you translate the meaning of the words. Even if you are unable to find anybody, then the dictionary is always there to help you out.

Learning a foreign language is a time consuming activity. Becoming fluent at a language does not merely involve dedication of time and effort to learning it. Along with these, you must also have that much amount of interest in it that you do not give up in between the process of becoming good at it.
