The Police Oral Board Will Determine if You Get Hired or Not

The police oral exam is one of two entrance exams that you have to pass before you can become a police officer. It is indeed a very hard exam that many qualified and able bodied applicants never pass. It is estimated that only a third of all applicants actually pass this exam and not all of the applicants that pass the exam will be offered the job of police officer.

This is a fact that confuses many people. How is it possible that physically and academically capable people are not able to pass this test? Even more importantly, what are the applicants that are passing this exam doing differently than the ones that are failing? Some of the insights may surprise you.

A Regular Exam?

Anyone that is interviewing for a police officer job should still conduct themselves as they normally would for a regular interview. This is all a part of the police oral exam. You don't have to walk into the exam room literally kicking down doors in order to pass the exam. However, you must still remember the following in preparation for your police oral exam:

1. Be on Time

2. Dress professionally

3. Be prepared to answer questions about yourself

4. Be cordial to the interviewers

5. Make and keep eye contact

6. Have a firm hand shake

7. Don't talk negatively about past employers

Sounds simple. Right? Wrong, you aren't interviewing for a normal 9-5 job. You are taking the police oral exam. Now is the time to take it up a notch. You will be testing with the Police Oral Review Board. This is a tough, professional, well respected group. They are going to determine if you have what it takes to be offered one of their few police jobs.

Remember, even if you pass the written exam, this does not guarantee that you will be offered a police officer job. The police oral exam is equally as important in deciding the ideal applicants for the positions available.

Do You Have What It Takes?

Can you really handle the stress of a police officer? Are you able to not only think on your feet, but also react on your feet? You must think and react without any advance notice. Sure, you need to be knowledgeable. However, the Police Oral Review Board is looking for a different type of person.

In order to pass the police oral exam, you must how to analyze facts and judge them in different types of scenarios. You have to be able to take those same facts and be able to use them during different judgmental situations. In addition, many times you won't be given any facts at all. You have to be able to first find the facts and then analyze them. Are there ever any wrong answers? No, not if you have good reasons that will justify them. Can you do this verbally?

Do you have what it takes to pass the police oral exam? Are you capable of beating this exam and becoming one of your city's finest police officers?

Find. Think. Analyze. Reason. Conclude. These are some of the major keys that you will need to pass the police oral exam.
