Dunlop Tyres has recently launched its latest high performance winter tyre the SP Wintersport 4D. This intriguing new cold weather tyre delivers lower fuel consumption (due to 11 per cent better rolling resistance) and greater road handling and safety capabilities than its competitors and predecessor the critically-acclaimed SP Wintersport 3D also from Dunlop Tyres.
The Dunlop SP Wintersport 4D is available from Dunlop Tyres in 37 variants covering over 84 per cent of the total European car requirement; in sizes ranging from 195/65 R15 to 255/35 R19. While the tyre is being released across a range of H to V speed ratings, it is understood that W-rated variants will be made available shortly, making Dunlop Tyres latest cold weather product a true UHP winter tyre. Audi and BMW are among the OE marques already associated with this newly launched product.
Europe is increasingly being seen as a strong winter tyres market, and this innovative new product from Dunlop Tyres arrives at a time when increasing implementation of winter tyre legislation by European governments is being pursued. Indeed it's clear that Dunlop Tyres is also responding to the anticipated increased demand arising from our increasingly erratic winter weather. Moreover, Dunlop Tyres is keen to point out that the new product is not just for the land of Elks and Reindeer, because the British Isles has experienced almost artic-like weather conditions during the last two winters.
Of course Dunlop Tyres is aware that recent German legislation has led to a strong uptake of winter tyres in that country and will be looking to increased demand across Europe. Indeed in Britain alone, winter tyre sales have increased by an astonishing 464% - although this is still only a single-digit percentage of the total UK market. For Dunlop Tyres however, as for other leading manufacturers, this is a wake-up call that will undoubtedly spur on further developments in this demanding arena. Interestingly enough, it is also accepted that the winter tyres market is becoming an area where high performance, an area in which Dunlop Tyres has a well-established reputation, is in great demand.
The new SP Wintersport 4D from Dunlop Tyres is therefore designed to fulfill an established need amongst those motorists who demand a winter tyre that balances all-round winter performance with the safety of enhanced grip. According to Dunlop Tyres, these consumer demands have prompted the company to make the various technological design changes that can be seen in their so-called four dimensional winter tyre. In particular, Dunlop Tyres say that this refers to the revised siping structure which operates in four directions as opposed to three and thus gives more lateral grip.
