Archery is a very popular sport today. Not only is it an olympic sport but it is an avid hobby for many. If you were to go to an archery range there is a high chance that you would also get sucked into the sport.
Archery goes back as far as 9000 BC. This was actually when the bow and arrow was invented. From there archery grew more and more popular until it developed into what it is today. Of course, a lot of improvements were made along the way to archery bows over the years. For example, there are typically four different types of archery bows: "Recurve Bows, Longbows, Compound Bows and Crossbows.
Each different type of archery bow has it's own unique qualities. It doesn't take a genius to realize that the crossbow is a lot different then all the other types of bows. Simply take a look at a picture of one and you will see what I mean. A longbow is unique as there are some forms of the bow that is actually as big as it's user.
A recurve bow is interesting because the bows edges curve away from the user. This gives the overall bow some extra pop. Finally, a compound bow is a special bow designed for archery type situations. This means the bow will excel in archery tournaments and can add extra velocity to the arrows.
Archery bows used in competitions are usually used to shoot arrows at a stationary target. These targets are interesting in and of themselves as there are many different types of them.
If you are interested in learning more about archery you should really consider going to your local archery equipment retailer and asking about local archery tournaments. Some of the most interesting things can happen at archery tournaments. You won't regret it I promise.
