Despite the continuous research, it is not really clear as to what actually causes the symptoms of restless leg syndrome to appear. A few years ago it was widely thought that this condition was a neurological disorder. However it is now thought that poor circulation of the blood, and a shortage of vitamins and minerals mat lie behind the cause of RLS.

Without putting a too finer point on it, most medications do not work very well for this condition. A lot of health experts actually advise you to perform for restless legs, and also look towards diet as a method to relieve the symptoms of RLS. People that have followed this advice have seen real benefits in the severity of their condition.

Because poor blood flow is one of the main causes attributed to restless legs, researchers have found that exercising can increase blood flow to the muscles and reduce the chances of attacks.

Don't worry, you do not have to get a gym membership in order to perform the exercises for RLS. These are simple exercises that anyone can do at home.

Walking For RLS

Walking is an easy and simple method for getting the blood flowing into the leg muscles. For walking to be more effective, it would probably be best that you use a faster pace than normal.

Stair Walking

Simply walking up and down the stairs for 5 or 10 minutes can help to push the blood into your legs. If you have access to a stepper, that would be even better.

Squats

Squats are a great exercise for getting the blood pumping. Because your legs are the biggest muscles in your body, the effect of exercising them will ensure that blood circulation is increased throughout the entire body.

Riding a Bicycle

One of the best exercises for restless legs. You can either ride a bike outside or use a stationary exercise bike at home if you have one.

It is best that you perform these exercises during the day, with the exception of squats. Most people find that the symptoms of restless leg syndrome tend to arrive at night. If you exercise just before you go to sleep, you may find that you have difficulty in sleeping because the exercise has woken up your body and your brain.

Squats can be done just before you go to bed. This can help reduce the chances of you waking up in the middle of the night and wandering around to try and get rid of the numbness and the cramps that are associated with this condition.

You can make a significant improvement to your condition through dietary changes and performing exercises for restless legs on a regular basis.
