Their are many ways to increase your vertical leap and make you jump higher. Their are also many other exercises that you can do to help improve your body tone and body shape. People who are inexperienced or athletes that are inexperienced may have no clue on how to do a workout program that will make them jump higher. For basketball athletes, this is especially true because nearly many basketball athletes are looking for ways to increase their vertical and hopefully be able to jump high enough to dunk a basketball just like they have always wanted to. We will discuss two parts that everybody has to do if they want to dunk a basketball or be better with their sports performance.
Weight Training
It is fundamental and very important that any athlete who is serious in improving their vertical performance that they do some weight training. Why is this? Because this is probably the best way that you can improve your performance in sports. The body has muscle fibers and when their is resistance in these muscles, then they tear and over the days, they will repair and they will become much bigger and stronger. This is basically the important of weight training and it should be fundamentally used by every athlete if they are serious about training. If you are training for lets say, jumping higher or increasing your vertical, then mainly any lower body exercise will do. The most common and most known form of lower body exercise is the squat. The squat, when done correctly targets nearly every lower body muscle and this is why people do squats, because it has so many benefits to it. But their should also be precaution because many beginning athletes do not seem to grasp how important it is that you stay in shape and keep the proper form in place and in motion. This can be seen when people start doing squats, the worst thing that you can do is to bend down or arch your back when you are squatting, this is what you do not want to do.
Plyometrics
Plyometrics is another form of exercise and is the main ingredient to sports. This form of exercise, mainly involves jumping, but you do not just go and jump as many times as you want, no. That is not how the plyometric exercises work. You do some exercise specific plyometric exercises like bunny hops which will help you become more explosive and that is the beauty of doing plyometrics. But these exercises place heavy loads of stress on the joints so be sure not to do them everyday.
