Sir Isaac Newton lived from the years 1642 to 1727 and is still considered one of the foremost scientific geniuses of all time. He was born at Woolsthrope near the region of Lincolnshire where he received formal education. Later on, Newton entered Cambridge University in 1661 and subsequently rose in prominence to become a Fellow of the Trinity College in the year 1667 and the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics in the year 1669.
Newton made many extremely important discoveries and predictions and formulated many theories during his time on a wide range of subjects. However, he is most well known for his contributions in the academic fields of physics as well as mathematics.
One of his greatest and more well-known discovers was the gravitational law of universal attraction which indicated that every single object in the universe exerted an attractive force on every other object with a force that was directly proportional to the product of both objects' respective masses and inversely proportionate to the square of the distance between them. In fact, there is a famous story stating that he only received the inspiration for this monumental discovery after a single apple dropped on his head one day that got him thinking about the force that pulls objects to Earth in general.
Another thing Newton is famous for is his formulation of a new mathematical system known is Calculus which was an exact way to determine the gradient at a specific point on a curve having been given the formula for it. This process was eventually given the title of differentiation. Another technique was also utilized to calculate the area under a curve and this was termed Integration.
Another of his most prominent discoveries was one that was made in the field of optics. Through a series of experiments using a prism he bought at a local fair, Newton was able to determine that white light was not a single pure color as most people at that time had suspected. Instead, it was a combination of seven different types of primary colors.
Finally, Isaac Newton was also well known for his three laws of motion that he eventually published in his book Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica. There is indeed much more to read about this fascinating man and as I would encourage everyone to do further reading on Newton.
