The Borat mankini was made famous in the film starring Borat in 2006. The comedy film showed the character Borat dressed in a mankini to stay in tune with his hilarious character. At the time obviously, it was not known that these mankini, or bikinis for men would actually start a craze, and that men would actually be daring enough to wear one in public.
Therefore who would be daring enough to actually wear a Borat mankini in public; the truth is that some men wouldn't consider wearing such a bizarre article of clothing, for fear of ridicule from the public, yet there are a number of men that would dare, as is shown by the sales of the mankini. In case we look to places in the world with very liberal manner to dress sense after that we'll find many men who are prepared to strut around in little a lot more than a piece of stretchy lycra. For example, on the Balearic island of Ibiza, a well known party island brimming filled with diversity, you might even find men wearing these articles at night time to go to
a nightclub.
The island of Ibiza is only one instance of the many places in today's liberal society which doesn't judge a person for their preferences or dress sense. You can find places all over the world where men are happy to parade in a mankini, be it on the beach, or even at a costume or Halloween party.
Based on what culture we live in, we might live in a society that loves fancy dress parties. At these parties there are no boundaries, just unlimited fun. It doesn't in any way make the events distasteful, such actions being organized for all age groups. Along with fancy-dress events, Halloween is a good time to have fun as well as wear amazing costumes, Halloween actually being the perfect excuse to be wild and not fear ridicule.
A western custom, stag nights for bridegroom to be are also a perfect event for a stag party to strut their maleness in the parade of manikinis. Stag nights are designed to be great fun to the bridegroom on his last night as a single man, and a time wear traditionally the entire group will dress up. The dress code for the stag night can involve all men dressed as children, or maybe as Tarzan, or of course, all dressed in mankinis. Stag nights spell fun, as well as parading in a mankini with your friends is a good theme to a fun packed night.
When Borat took to the stage back in 2006, parading in a mankini, the audience loved the thought, the film being a global success, and one at which the audience laughed throughout. At the time though, it was not really thought of that a lot more than five years later, mankinis will be for sale and an item regularly bought for fancy dress nights or as a novelty gift for a boyfriend. Long gone are the days when men would be ridiculed for wearing what is actually a ridiculous take off from a girl's bikini. The world was shocked by the first bikini for woman, but in the twenty first century, this takes a little more than a man in a Lycra mankini to shock society.
