Lawn mower repair shops are a great place to keep your mower in top condition. These shops can help keep up with regular maintenance as well as major repairs or overhauls. Here are some tips to help you find the right shop for you.
1. Does the shop carry your mower brand?
It is helpful if the shop sells the same mower as yours. That way you will know they can access the company for parts, as well as consultation on complex repairs or overhauls.
2. Does the shop have a list of standard services with posted prices?
Many shops will provide a number of services for a fixed price. You can look over the list ahead of time to see if the price fits your budget. If it does, go ahead with having them do the work. If it doesn't, you can keep looking for a cheaper alternative.
3. What training does the staff have in mower repair?
There are a number of trade schools and colleges that teach courses in small engine repair. Some even offer a certificate or degree depending on the level of courses completed. Ask to see if the repair staff has completed any certification or training courses.
4. Does the shop offer manuals and other info for do-it-yourself types?
In addition to providing repair services, some shops offer manuals for a variety of mowers. This gives the do-it-yourself customers a way to learn how to take care of routine maintenance themselves. While this is not a make or break item, it is nice to see that the shop is willing to help people who like to do their own repairs.
5. Can the shop find parts for mowers that they don't sell?
In today's rapidly changing marketplace, mowers that were sold widely just a few years ago are soon replaced by newer models. Thanks to the internet, there are a number of online sources of parts for older mowers. Ask if the shop has used any of these online sources to get parts for mowers other than the models they carry. This can reduce your uncertainty about being able to get your mower serviced even if they do not sell your particular model.
