sometimes your computer can lose its train of thought, it forgets to write down where you put things on the hard drive, this is why you should always close your programs before turning off your computer. When your computer does this the result is a disk error, Windows can regain its train of thought pretty easily, if you have Windows 7 though usually do automatically, though if you find that your computer is running a bit strangely, looking for disk errors is usually a good first step towards making things better, this is a pretty simple process if you follow these simple instructions.
First things first you're going to make your way over to the start button click it then open my computer or computer, then right-click your hard drives icon then choose properties, then you're going to click the tools tab on the top of the properties dialog box, then click the check now button, when the next screen comes up click both check boxes then click start. If the drive you checking is The Windows Dr., Windows will ask you to reschedule the scan for the next time you fire up your computer. In this case you going to click the schedule disk check button and restart your computer split the scan will commence, if you're not checking The Windows Dr., Windows will not need to restart but will start looking through your drives and finding suspicious areas and fixing the ones they can right away. This whole process can take a very long time, your best bet is to just let your computer run overnight, when you wake up the next morning you should find a dialog box telling you how many errors were found and how many were fixed if any.
