installing an external DVD drives a very simple process, it's about as simple as plugging in a mouse or keyboard. You start off by opening up the box and taking out new drive and its cable, some external drives come with power cables, make sure you save the manual that comes with it, this may come in handy later. Now all you have to do is plug everything in, if it needs power, plug it into the wall, but if all it has is a USB cable then plug that into your empty USB port, your computer will almost always recognize the drive. Once plugged into the USB port, it will be ready in your computers folder and you'll be able to play and burn DVDs to your heart's content.
