I knew I had to look for cheap ski trips for the class of my daughter. Having been volunteered by her mom, my wife to be the parent designate for the class skiing weekend, I was given the task to plan for that special ski trip, with 10 kids, 2 teachers and myself.
The first thing that I asked for was the budget for the trip which I received and it brought a new meaning to the phrase cheap ski trip. This meant that this was going to be a long ride and not one of those easy plane trips with group transfers to the resort. I thought to myself that having done cheap ski trips while at university, I would be use to all the hassle it entailed.
Luckily enough, it wasn't as hassled as I thought it would be. The internet was more than a great help for me, it actually did most of the job. Since I had two months to plan the trip, I was able to search for what cheap ski trips were available and more specifically what cheap ski trips were available to high school students. I found out that if the students were proficient skiers I would be able to save an additional 15% since there would be no ski instructors necessary to guide them. I also found out that there were some resorts that would actually include meals in their rates. Crunching the numbers, I felt that this would be the best option since we did not have to do the carrying of extra food, and this would result in better fuel mileage. The difference of the cost was something I could afford on my own. I didn't want to have to cook for a bunch of kids.
Talking to some local companies and generous parents, we were able to raise some more money so that we could give the kids other things as well during the trip. We ordered t shirts for them and I asked the resort if we could have a special bonfire night which we could serve extra food like hotdogs, marshmallows, and other nifty things to grill off the bonfire.
The cheap ski trip weekend came without a hitch. Everyone did enjoy the trip. I even had time to try the Jacuzzi at the resort. Though I stayed mostly with the kids, I did reserve a nice suite at the resort for myself just to get away from it all. The kids didn't know that I did that but that's just a reward I deemed justifiable for myself. It was a cheap ski trip for everyone but it was worth the money spent.
