partitions are what Windows stores your information on inside your drives, in most cases a partition fills the entire drive, in other cases the drive can contain several partitions, each with its own letter assigned to it, in some cases you may need to rearrange these partitions, an example of this is if you put an old Windows system image from a 150 GB drive onto a 300 GB drive your Windows partition will still only be 150 GB, which means that the other half of your hard drive will not be used. Through the magic of the Windows 7 built in disk manager you can extend your partition to fill the entire drive.
Then right-click computer or my computer and then choose manage. The computer management window will then appear, this is a pretty useful area for doing a lot of technical tasks, such as updating your computers drivers. Now select disk management from the computer management Windows left pane, the right section of the window will now display your disk drives, it will also tell you how much of the drive is unallocated, this refers to how much space is unusable, our goal here is to make the partition big enough to cover that unused space. You're now going to click your C partition and choose extend volume, the extend volume wizard will now appear ready to take you through the entire process of extending your partition, click next to start the wizard, the wizard is very simple to use and will give you the option to extend your drive into the vacant space in the first screen then just click next and then finish, and then your partition shall take up the entire drive.
