I remember the cooking show of Jamie Oliver when he took his cooking on the road literally by touring Europe with his van and cooking caravan in tow. It seemed like a throwback to the late 60's and 70's with the caravan he had but nevertheless, it was a great television season he had and no doubt he continues to grow in popularity which helps in his advocacy of having kids in school eat properly with the right amount of nutrients needed. I decided that one summer the family and I would go on a road trip around Europe and we needed to purchase a suitable caravan for us.
I knew that the best place to find caravans for sale was at the Bridgend and Cardiff area. Bridgend and Cardiff are known vacation spots for motor homes and there was a wealthy supply of used caravans which could easily be hauled by the Range Rover. These mobile caravans would be perfect for my wife on the road trip as my two college children would sporadically meet us in designated cities we discussed as both were busy with their studies. Didn't they know that their parents went to college as well and knew that perhaps it wasn't just about studies? Well, anyway, what could you do as they are practically all grown up? So my wife and I took the road trip to Bridgend and Cardiff to look for a decent looking caravan that would at least have a big bedroom, comfortable shower and a lavatory, and enough closet space for us. Since it was just the two of us mainly on the road, we decided that we would not prioritize cooking as a requirement for the caravan and that we could eat at the local restaurants and pubs. My wife likes roughing it and is an avid mountaineer and hiker. I like to live a little so the purchasing of the caravan was the great compromise. We could go to great locations and enjoy the view and bring some extra comfort with us.
We found the suitable caravan and agreed on a certain price and we would go back for it at an agreed time as the company wanted to spruce up the caravan a bit and make sure it was road worthy. When we went back for it, it almost looked brand new and was spic-span cleaned. They had also reupholstered some of the cushions in the caravan and added new awning to the extensions. It was perfect. We were on our way to our road trip, a middle aged hippie and overage yuppie. We were going to have fun.
