This article is for those who are in the IT industry, specifically in software development industry. Back in the 90s, when the software development industry was new and lots of young people were looking forward to making the most of this new revolution by joining courses related to software development, as there was a huge demand of software developers in the market, and the salary of an average software developer was in 6 figures, obviously everything looked promising for the youngsters to think about joining the field of development.
However, unfortunately all of those speculations and expectations were not paid off, and the software development industry became very saturated in a very short span of time. Although there are still jobs available in the market, but still you don't get paid as much as you would have been paid 10 years back. In this article, I am listing few benefits of being in the software development industry:
Money: Being a developer is still a good choice when it comes to the salary comparing to other careers in IT industry. However, due to the saturation and competitive market you need to prove your ability and your worth of being paid more than all the other people that are waiting in line to grab your job. To convince an employer that you are worth the desired salary by showing enough proofs of your work, expertise and other interpersonal skills. Otherwise employers are intelligent enough to understand that there are people that are looking forward to working much harder at a lower salary. So, yes, the software development has money in it, but you have to prove that you are worth it; it's as simple as that.
Respect: Being a software developer is kind of a respectable job. People are generally impressed by things and professions that they don't really understand, as there is some decent level of admiration for people that do that kind of stuff.
Versatility: Being a software developer you have an option of working various technologies and platforms, this gives you enough room in your career to switch from one platform to other, if you are getting bored with one technology. E.g. you can work on. Net Technologies, Java, PHP and many others. Furthermore, in software development you have various career levels, which allow you to work on different levels and allow you to have experience of different methodologies related to custom software development.
Innovative Living: Being a developer you have the opportunity to come up with something that can bring something good to this world, you have an option of being creative, innovative and aspiring. Personally being a software developer, I love to create applications that provide some help to students in their studies.
