Whether it is a faucet that has a constant drip or a toilet that is overflowing, these common household plumbing problems are annoying. Further common plumbing issues include clogged drains, dripping pipes, and leaky showerheads. A foul smell coming from a seemingly clean toilet may indicate a broken seal underneath while 'sweating' pipes can indicate a leak or may simply be condensation.

Though a lot of issues can be resolved by the homeowner, there are times when it is best to have a professional handle it. Plumbing problems in bathrooms may require a plumbing contractor's assistance because of the more complex installations in comparison to other rooms in a typical home.

If your plunger won't fix the toilet clog or replacing a basic seal doesn't stop the leaking pipe, the issue might be more serious and require calling plumber services. Oftentimes a bad odor from a toilet will mean the seals are either dried up or possibly a pipe has burst. Slow water drainage can be caused by various objects like hair, soap scum, or grease, becoming stuck within the piping.

An imbalance in water pressure; when the bathroom faucet being turned on makes the kitchen faucet turn off or vice versa is also a common problem, likely caused by incorrect or poorly installed plumbing parts. The best solution for water pressure imbalances is usually to call a professional to check your lines and plumbing fixtures.

Having a pipe wrench as a household tool will prove to be a very handy home plumbing tool. It allows you to tighten or loosen pipes and other connections quickly and easily. Basin wrenches are a more specialized plumbing tool that will reach into the tighter areas under sinks because of their ability to adjust to fit different nuts and their ability to flip to the reverse side, allowing you to continue turning the tool rather than releasing it at every turn.
