If you're a fan of darts and enjoy playing a few games with your friends on your nights out, then you'd likely want to get your own dartboard for your home at some point - and there are certainly plenty of options on the market nowadays. Making the right choice is important though, as a dartboard will generally see a lot of wear and tear in its lifetime and you must ensure you're putting your money into something of good enough quality.

There are some quite advanced dartboard models available today, incorporating different kinds of electronics to improve the experience - in some cases you don't even have the darts driving into the board at all, they just attach via other means, providing good longevity for the board as it doesn't see splits and other common problems that occur with traditional dartboards.

On the other hand, these boards can be expensive, and heavens forbid yours breaks down - repairing electronics is always a delicate job and you'll have to pay accordingly for it, which can drag you down significantly.

Dartboards come in different sizes as well - take some measurements of your playing area and keep them into consideration when doing your shopping. However, don't just think about the size of the board itself, but also consider the distance the players will be standing from it, as well as the available free space for moving around the board when a game is in progress.

Examine the board's layout carefully - in some cases, the bull's eye may be more difficult to hit if it's held together by staples on the playing area, so you should look for a design that fastens the bull's eye securely on the back of the board and doesn't intrude into the playing space in any way. It's very unpleasant to have to pick up dart after dart as they hit an edge on the board itself.

Some dartboards don't come with darts included, too - this is an extremely important thing to consider as it can be quite the unpleasant surprise to excitedly unpack your dartboard with your friends gathered around you, only to find out that you've only bought a board with no actual darts. And if you do have to buy your darts separately, consider the different options you've got for them as well - everything from the size and shape matters for getting the perfect game of darts every time, so look carefully.
