The police force in the UK is one of the most professional and diverse organisations in the world. As far as careers go there is absolutely nowhere in the world where you can be challenged and make a difference as much as it is possible to do so in the police force. There is also the chance of promotion with the police so there is definitely room for career progression if you have the necessary ambitions.
This is a very good thing indeed and the police force is never going to crush the ambitions of any recruits. If you have what it takes to succeed then your talents will pay off and you can progress rapidly towards the top.
Of course, there is an incredible amount of accountability the further up the chain you go in any organisation and the most senior police officers have a huge weight on their shoulders. For this reason, it is very important to think about your suitability thoroughly before coming to a decision. Having said that, if you are selected to become a police officer then you obviously have the skills required, but can you make it to the top?
The people who make it to the top of any organisation are incredibly well motivated, ambitious and willing to accept responsibility. When it comes to promotion with the police there couldn't possibly be any higher stakes than the safety and lives of the public and that's why the process of selecting senior officers is taken very seriously indeed.
However, if you stand out during the selection process then you can opt for a fast track scheme. This is a system which aims to get the best possible recruits into the top positions within a few years of them becoming a police officer. This is essential if the police force is going to keep on top of the criminals and maintain the service that it currently provided to us all. With new ideas and fresh talent there will be no end in the progress made to keep our communities safe.
The fast track system is not the only method of promotion with the police and any officer is welcome to apply, should a vacancy arise. Promotion is very much possible and a great way to reach the top if you are the right man or woman for the job. The pay rise is also a very important factor in making a decision and you will be able to expect a higher salary. You will also, unfortunately, be expected to take on a much greater role and to work much longer hours in general compared, with a regular police officer.
There is no guarantee of promotion with the police but it can be a very rewarding experience. It is a huge responsibility to take control of other officers and requires a huge amount of patience, control and of course, you must be a great leader. Nonetheless, the chances of promotion are good and there are many opportunities to advance within the police force.
