The police force in the UK is one of the most professional and diverse organisations in the world. The fast track system is not the only method of promotion with the police and any officer is welcome to apply, should a vacancy arise. Promotion is very much possible and a great way to reach the top if you are the right man or woman for the job. The pay rise is also a very important factor in making a decision and you will be able to expect a higher salary. You will also, unfortunately, be expected to take on a much greater role and to work much longer hours in general compared, with a regular police officer.
There is no guarantee of promotion with the police but it can be a very rewarding experience. It is a huge responsibility to take control of other officers and requires a huge amount of patience, control and of course, you must be a great leader. Nonetheless, the chances of promotion are good and there are many opportunities to advance within the police force.
