There is no one prouder than the mom and dad of a newborn baby or child, and one of the many ways these parents display this pride is through sharing family images to any person who will take a look.
Of course you would like those photographs to be great but that is never easy when talking about kids. Taking an incredible shot is as hard as catching a cut snake.
Nonetheless there are some suggestions that you can follow that could make the task a little simpler for you.
Be Geared Up
With children's pictures, the best opportunity will invariably appear if you are off guard, so you always need to be prepared to pull out your camera and fire off a few images.
This means having your camera ready as often as possible. If you're leaving the home add packing your camera gear into your normal packing routine.
If your camera uses film, make sure you have additional rolls readily available, should you shoot with a digital camera make sure that the batteries are fully charged up.
If the memory stick is nearly full, transfer some photographs onto your computer and clear up some space.
Shoot Plenty Of Photos
Candid pictures are often the ones that turn out the best when it comes to young children.
If your baby is in a happy mood, get your camera out and shooting.
This is a lot easier than trying to get your kids to recreate something you saw them do last night when you didn't have your camera available. Naturally this will be harder if you're working with film, which is why digital equipment is without a doubt popular when it comes to kid's photography.
Shoot In Black And White
Use the black and white or even sepia functions available in the digital camera to take a few extra elegant shots of your child.
You don't need to take them all in black & white, but you are guaranteed to record a few images you're satisfied with when shooting in this way.
Use Your Images
Now that you've got a whole bunch of superb images that you've captured, it's a good idea to do something with them.
The obvious choice is to have the best ones framed, but another thing that can be done today is choose a somewhat bigger collection and save them to a digital frame. This is really a frame that is actually a small display and it randomly flicks through the photos that are stored on the memory.
You can even use some images for making greeting cards that you send out to friends and family - among the better Christmas cards I've been given happen to be those with photos of my close friends children displayed.
So get out there and shoot as many photographs of your kids as possible and forget about asking them to strike poses too much - you'll end up having more not so great pictures, but you're also certain to capture more at the other end of the scale also.
