There are four C's to look out when choosing diamond jewellery. The four C's are clarity, cut, colour, and Carat. Each of these is important, so don't think one is more important than the other. A high-quality diamond will have all of these qualities.
Clarity describes the size and number of inclusions inside of a diamond. Almost every diamond has traces of non-crystallized carbon, the element that they were born from. Each inclusion is unique, and makes each diamond different. Some are small and need to be seen with a magnifying glass, but others are so large that they interfere with the diamond's brilliance. So remember this on your next shopping trip: the more the inclusions, the less valuable a diamond is, and the fewer the inclusions, the rarer the stone.
When we think of diamond colour, we usually think of them as white or colourless. But some will have tones of yellow or brown. Diamonds have colour grades starting a letter D and go throughout the alphabet. True and colourless stones are a grade D. They are also the most rare and valuable of diamonds. Even though colour in diamonds makes them less valuable, there are some vivid coloured diamonds that can be extremely rare.
Diamond weights are measured in carats. One carat is divided into 100 points. For example, a diamond with 25 points is described as a quarter of a carat or 0.25 carats. The larger the diamond, the more expensive the carats will be.
Cut is important to diamond jewellery because it gives each diamond its own unique sparkle and brilliance. Cut also allows light to enter and reflect through the diamond. You will find diamonds in a variety of cuts such as brilliant, oval, pear, marquise, and princess. To know if a diamond is ideally cut, check to see if the light properly reflects between facets and disperses through the top. If a diamond is cut too deep or shallow, either the light will not reflect or it will just escapes out of the ring.
If you want a genuine diamond ring, you should shop for handmade jewellery. This is the most inexpensive way of buying a good diamond ring. Your jeweller or jewellery designer will help you choose the right diamond for your budget and tastes. Then, they will only charge you for the gold used and the hours of work involved. This is better than going to a high street jewellery store, where you will be charged for thousands of dollars on a ring that's already been made - usually in a factory. What's more, a handmade ring will be more unique and special to give to your loved one.
