When it comes to Laser printers it's a whole different story, these printers actually require you to work on them in order for them to last. In some cases all it takes is some simple cleaning in the right spots to make these printers good as new.
First of all you should check if it's your printer that's the problem or if it's the computer. To do this try hooking up your printer to any other computer you can get to and see if it works, if it does, then your computer is the problem, if not, then it's time to start finding how much you might be paying on printer repairs.
Scanners and copy machines are very similar, the difference is that a scanner doesn't print things in the same size on a piece of paper that's the same size. In most cases your scanners software will let you use it like a copy machine, but if that's not the case for you there is still hope. Place whetever you want to copy on the tp right corner of the scanner bed, then place an 8.5 by 11 sheet of paper on top of the item, then you're going to preview the image and crop it to 8.5 by 11, then print it to a standard 8.5 by 11 piece of paper and you should be good to go.
If you're finding that your scans aren't looking as nicely as you might hope then you have a few options. The first one is to give it a good gentile cleaning with a lint free rag, you don't want to use paper towels because that can scratch the scanner, then you're going to sprat the rag and whipe the glass surface clean. You don't want to sprat the glass with the cleaner because the cleaner could potentially make its way to the insides of the scanner where it's not very welcome. Another task you may need to complete to make sure your scanner is working at its prime is to make sure that your monitor can display as many if not more colors than your scanner can.
