China has emerged as the fastest growing marketplace for China's Apple iPhone although it is selling well all around the world. The chief operating officer for Apple reported that iPhone sales in China increased by nearly 250% during the first three months of 2011from the same time frame last year. This increased Apple's to just below $5,000,000,000 during the first half of the fiscal year which is an increase of nearly four times that in 2010.
This represents approximately 10% of total Apple's revenues. In the United States, the iPhone sales only increased by 155%. Apple is very happy with the sales in China.
However, it's not clear exactly where in China the iPhone is selling the most. An Apple spokesperson reported that they believe it is on the island of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the mainland.
However, analysts have reported that on the mainland of China, Apple is seeing a major shift with the way the consumers are seeing the iconic Smartphone. When Apple's iPhone 4 launched there in late September, it was a big success with the consumers on the mainland of China and quickly sold out which led to shortages. The managing director for the research company Marbridge Consulting that is based in Beijing reported that earlier versions of the iPhone hadn't been as successful.
It wasn't until late 2009 that Apple began officially begin selling the iPhone on the mainland of China which is over two years after it was launched in the United States. In order to comply with the Chinese technology regulations, the iPhone was designed and sold in China without the capability of W i F i. Apple was eventually permitted to provide the iPhone with the capability of W I Fi. However, by the time that they were permitted to do so, the worldwide launch of the iPhone 4 was only a few months away. Therefore, many consumers decided to wait until the time was right.
The iPhone 4's friendly user interface and attractive features have made it appealing for the purchasers of the Smartphone in China. In addition, in China the Smartphone is a status symbol. The people in China hold the Apple brand and its ability to innovate in very high regard. The Apple experience store in Beijing is packed every day.
However, even with Apple iPhone's strong sales in China, it isn't yet the domineering presence in the nation's Smartphone marketplace. Apple only had 8.3% of the China's market at the end of 2010. According to the research company Ananysys that is based in Beijing this only represents an increase from the 5.4% that it held at the start of the year. Motorola, Samsung, and Nokia continue to lead in the marketplace.
A senior analyst with research firm Ovum located in the United States reported that Apple's share of the marketplace is still very small in spite of the fact that the iPhone has sold well in China. According to the Nielson Company, Apple leads in the Smartphone marketplace with a 28.6% share.
