If it's been a while considering that you've taken a basic Typing Ensure that you you don't get to type significantly at work, you would probably be astonished to find out that your speed has now decreased significantly. And if you're scanning this now, you probably just found that you need to rev up your typing skills pronto for a new position. (That or your boss is merely dying to give you a much-needed increase depending on how fast you can multi-task.)
Typing really fast is an expertise that some people are really proud of. Some people who can do so have the temerity to put that tiny piece of information in their cv. And rightfully so for not everybody can type at 100+ words each minute. And there are plenty of jobs looking for fast typists.
Some of these jobs are the following:
Secretarial jobs. When we create the image of a secretary, just what usually comes to mind would be the tasks that they do - having phone calls, faxing documents, generating coffee for the bosses, getting down notes, photocopying documents, as well as other clerical procedures.
Old school secretaries write down the dictations first (stenography-style), then they kind away. Employers hire secretaries because of their being fast as well as efficient. (The "fast" part typically comes from the fact that they can variety fast with minimal or no errors at all, plus they after submitting what is needed, they are able to turn their focus on some other tasks at hand.)
Call centers, BPOs, and/or customer support services. With the advent of new technology comes the need for support centers for a lot of fields via different walks of life. They usually require their employees to multi-task - they must talk on the phone even though typing at the same time. (No dead air, or else, the customer towards the end of the line may get bored or angry and just belief on you.)
Data entry. Many data entry employees are genuinely (and I mean, really) quick typists because they have deadlines in order to complete. Basically, they read accounts (could be in words as well as numbers, depending on the company) along with key in the data into a spreadsheet or a database (of the company's alternative.) For them to complete their allocations, data entry employees must type fast due to the heaps of paperwork they need to finish.
(Note: There is actually a popular belief that data entry firms don't require their employees to visit work. While it is true that a number of can work at home, most companies even now require their people to go to the office.)
