Keyboards aren't really a part of your computer that needs replacing very often, but say ol Qwerty has been around a while and some of her keys are starting to stick and others of her keys aren't working at all, or maybe she got caught on the wrong end of the morning OJ mishap, either way it's time to find yourself a new keyboard. There are two kinds of connectors that your keyboard can come with, there's the more modern USB cable, or the old school PS/2. The older keyboards with the PS/2 connector are generally less expensive, but the keyboards with USB are usually a bit more convenient. Some USB keyboards even comes with PS/2 attachments so you can get the best of both worlds. When it comes to laptops if for some reason you wanted a full sized keyboard for your laptop, maybe the one you have doesn't work or something, you're going to need a USB keyboard, really the only reason you would want PS/2 would be if all of your USB ports were full. Not only that but USB mice are actually hot swappable unlike PS/2, which means that you can unplug it and plug it back in while the computer is on and it'll still work.
Keyboards can range anywhere from about 10 dollars to about 100. There is your standard 101 key keyboard that performs all of the basic keyboard functions. There are gaming and multimedia keyboards which have all kinds of special buttons that you can set up to do special things, like skip songs, or open maps in games. There are ergonomic keyboards which have a boomerang kind of shape to them, these keyboards are all about preference, you may love em, or you may hate em. There are wireless keyboards that use batteries and plug into your USB port, kind of pointless if you ask me, but ohh well. Finally there are touchpad keyboards that have the same touchpad's that you find on laptops to move the mouse around.
